The Art of Weather Prediction with the Fitzroy Barometer
The Fitzroy Crystal Barometer is a perfect fusion of science and aesthetics. Inspired by the ingenious process used since the 17th century by Admiral Robert FitzRoy, this barometer offers you visual weather prediction. The camphor-based liquid and salt crystals inside react to changes in atmospheric pressure, providing a fascinating representation of the weather to come. Rachel Whitcombe –
Bought this for my 11-year-old who’s been obsessed with weather ever since a school project on clouds. He unboxed it at the kitchen table and wouldn’t let anyone move it from the windowsill. The crystals in the liquid grow feathery and spiky when the temperature drops and then settle back down when it’s warmer, and he’s been keeping a little notebook of what the glass does against what the BBC says. So far the glass is winning, much to his delight. Looks lovely on the sill too.
Eric Plumley –
got this for our grandson. He grinned from ear to ear when he saw the crystals. Lovely piece, well packed.
Hannah Okafor –
Really pleased with it. Looks smart on the bookshelf and the crystals do change from day to day, which is oddly hypnotic. Only reason it’s not five stars is that I’d have liked a stand or something a bit sturdier for the base, so I’ve put it on a little coaster for now.

Third thing I’ve ordered from you lot and it’s another good ‘un. Arrived quick, nicely wrapped, and it looks cracking by the front window. Not sure how accurate it is as a forecast, mind, but it’s a grand conversation piece.
Margaret Hollis –
Bought this for my grandson Alfie, who’s nine and obsessed with weather. He pressed his nose against the glass for ages, then ran off to fetch his notebook to log what the crystals were doing each morning. Looks lovely on his bookshelf too, and the postie delivered it well wrapped.

Spot on. Sits on my windowsill and the liquid changes from clear to cloudy with feathery crystals as the pressure and temperature shift. Pretty chuffed with it.
