Hand Crank Generator Kit: make your own electricity
A physics experiment kit
This educational kit reproduces the working of a hand crank electric generator. As you turn the handle, the wheel transfers mechanical energy to a mini dynamo, which lights a real LED bulb. A simple, concrete way to approach the idea of energy transformation, ideal for school projects or STEM workshops.
DIY electric generator: a smart, lasting gift
This build-it-yourself project develops concentration, coordination and independence. Perfect for children aged 8 to 14, it turns a hands-on activity into an exciting physics lesson. Martin Fletcher –
Bought this for my nephew’s birthday and it went down well. Took about 40 minutes to put together with a bit of help, and the bulb glows nicely once you get a steady rhythm going. Only reservation is the crank feels a touch flimsy at the joint, so you do need to be gentle with it.

Decent idea and my daughter enjoyed it once it was built, but one of the small screws was missing from the bag. Had to rummage through the toolbox to find a match, which rather took the shine off at the start. Works fine now.
Olivia Bennett –
My eight-year-old built most of this himself at the kitchen table and the look on his face when the bulb flickered on was priceless! He then spent the next hour asking why it gets brighter when he turns faster, so we ended up chatting about magnets and coils. Cracking little kit.
Dave Wilson –
third kit I’ve ordered from here and it’s another solid one. Clear enough diagrams, nice chunky parts. Bulb is a bit dimmer than I expected, but that’s me being picky really.

Got this for my grandson Alfie. He turned the handle and the light came on and he grinned from ear to ear. Lovely.

Bought this for my grandson Alfie, who’s nine, and he had it built before tea. The moment that little bulb lit up with nothing but his own cranking, his face was a picture. He’s been showing it to everyone who comes through the door, even the postie. Cracking little kit.

brilliant. spot on.
