Solar Powered Grasshopper: the educational toy that moves with light
A solar bug toy to spark curiosity
Compact and light, this solar bug is designed to captivate young minds. Made of ABS plastic and PVC, it measures about 5 cm long. Its miniature motor, powered by a photovoltaic panel, makes it vibrate and move as soon as it is exposed to a light source. A concrete, playful demonstration of solar energy in action.
A solar energy insect to learn while playing
This toy is ideal for children from age 6, at home, in class or during science workshops. It stimulates curiosity, teaches the basics of renewable energy and offers an interactive experience without needing batteries. Wondering whether it works indoors? A desk lamp is often enough to set it off, though natural light remains best.

Gareth Pugh –
Bought this for my nephew’s birthday and he’s had it hopping about the windowsill all week. Needs proper bright light, mind, a cloudy afternoon and it just sits there looking sulky. Otherwise a cracking little thing for the price.
Priya Nair –
my daughter (7) held it under the lamp, nothing, then took it to the garden and it started buzzing and twitching in her palm. She screamed ‘it’s ALIVE!’ and ran to find her dad. We’ve since had a long chat about how the little solar panel turns sunlight into a tiny bit of electricity that spins a motor. She’s now testing it with torches, sunglasses and a bowl of water. Best fiver-ish I’ve spent in ages.
Colin Marsh –
Does what it says in direct sunlight, but it’s a fair bit smaller than the photos suggested. Roughly the size of a matchbox. Took nearly nine days to arrive too, so not ideal for a last-minute gift. My grandson still liked it once it got going, just be aware.
Margaret Ellison –
Lovely little gift for my grandson. His smile when it started wiggling in the sun was a picture. Spot on.
Alice Thompson –
Got this solar powered grasshopper for my grandson, and he couldn’t stop giggling when it started hopping about. Brilliant way to spark his interest in how the sun can make things move. Best gift for a curious little mind!
Tom Bailey –
Wasn’t sure what to expect, but this little grasshopper is a treat. All it needs is a bit of sunshine and it buzzes to life. Love how it shows what solar energy can do without any fuss. Great fun watching it come alive in the garden.
